Fashion Trends with Pookie

TRENDS

Key Pieces for spring /summer 2011

Maxi dress – Comfortable and free flowing in hippy floral patterns, halter necks, floatey fabrics and broderie angalis. Maxi’s suit many figure shapes and are perfect for warm summer days and nights.

Wide leg trousers –Usually high waist classic styles to create better body proportions, block bright colours or 1970’s style shades of brown, burnt orange, taupe and tobacco. A belt is an important accessory to this look to emphasise the waist.

Something Stripe – Bold and big deckchair stripes, designed to be worn as statement prints rather than the demure Breton stripe. Stripes are no longer reserved for just tops, but feature in skirts and dresses.

Flares – Many of the key trends for spring 2011 have their roots in the 70s and nothing says 70’s more than a pair of flared jeans or trousers.

Midi Skirt – Between the knee and ankle, the midi has gone to great lengths to feature this season. A twist on this key piece is peplum pleated waist maxi skirts in single-colour blocks. These look great with an all in one body leotard-type top which make a return as part of spring’s ballerina trend.

One piece - The all in one is back, comfy and chic, jumpsuits are a hot trend. Wide leg jumpsuits work best in soft floral prints or try a more sophisticated sporty look playsuit.

Wedge Shoes – A new hybrid of the summer sandal is the platform wedge with a difference. Ultra high wedge heels and platforms which have scarf-like pieces that tie at the ankles, keeping feet firmly secure and surprisingly comfortable.

Wooden Heels –Wooden sole, studded clogs have been reworked to almost unrecognizable proportions, which again have taken inspiration for the 70’s. Top tip the clog must have a heel to be really on trend.
