Winter fashion with Rose Horsfield from Pookie

As winter approaches why not embrace the season by finding those key glam pieces to keep you looking fabulous throughout the dark nights.

Top 10 key fashion buys for Winter

1. Leather - Skinny leather trousers, leather skirts and dresses or a butter soft leather jacket. It’s a key material and is showcased everywhere on the catwalks. Leather bags are structured and ladylike in traditional styles with simple fastening and in muted tones.

2. Trousers- It is the return of the trouser this winter with chino and jodhpur inspired styles, skinny military pants, panel and tapered trousers and 1970’s boot cut high waisted styles, with clean design and relaxed tailoring.

3. Jackets – A staple for every wardrobe this winter. Hot styles include the military influenced aviator and English heritage inspired country tweed or quilted jacket.

4. Chunky Knit Relaxed and slouchy, simple or Fair Isle inspired multi colour patterns .These textured cardigans and cable knits come in mid length and long line styles worn belted.

5. The skirt- Hem lines are down on skirts. Longer skirts midi to floor sweeping, pleated in 1950’s and 1970’s retro inspired styles.

6. Fur and Lace– These textured fabrics feature widely this winter. The lace look encompasses romantic, but not too girly vintage styles and sensual but not too suggestive glam Goth styles. Fur, featured widely on the runways this winter, coats and gillets or fur trim edging detail is integrated onto garments and accessories.

7. Animal print Bring out your wild side and unleash your animal magnetism in full on print or with subtle touches of print to liven up any outfit.

8. Camel Coat Camel the status shade of the season embraces the minimal trend. Coats are available in floor length to short and in differing shades of camel; it is a classic staple in your winter wardrobe.

9. Embellishment -Sequined dress’s and jackets, studded and beaded shoulders on jackets and knitwear, will make you sparkle all through those long winter nights.

10. Prom Queen Dress Think high school 1950’s vs. SJP, sex and the city. There are a range of cute or sophisticated styles out there to choose from, to be the belle of the ball.

Trousers – Chino inspired style trousers for women, Jodhpur seaming on leggings and straight leg /skinny cord trousers.

Shoes: Suede knee high boots, brogues, back to school look loafers and Chelsea boots

Accessories: 1970’s style printed scarves with equestrian and chain motifs, over the body and satchel style bags, vintage look jewellery.

Military

The new urban uniform

Jackets - Tailoring is structured with a military influence.

Trousers – Skinny utility cargo style trousers and jeggins.

Tops and knitwear– Oversize with military style embellishments on tops. New innovative designs of mid length or long line textured cardigans and cable knits.

Shoes: Hobnail boots, high heels with buckles, straps and desert boot stitching.

Accessories: Tassel Middle East look loop scarf

Glam Goth

Black, black, and more black

Jackets – Butter soft leather jacket or fake fur gilet belted.

Trousers –Leather, skinny black trousers and lace leggings.

Tops and knitwear- The sheer look with layering, in textured fabrics such as lace, satin and velvet.

Animal motifs – Illustrative animal imagery on tops and dress’s.

Summer Fashion tips with Rose Horsfield

Whether there is glorious sunshine or it’s a washout, here are some of the key trends to keep you looking hot all summer long.

Colours

Nudes and pastel shades are the base pallet for this summer’s wardrobe: think powder pink, peach, oyster and apricot.

All white- a perennial summer favorite, is still white hot. Add metallic accessories to finish off this look, gold adds that sun kissed glow.

Trends

Romantic – soft tailoring, frills, bows, pleats and lace looks dominate in nude shades.

Military - This army-esque trend has been reworked for 2010, forget combat pants and army surplus, think more individual than clean cut. Team your military pieces with shreds, tattered t-shirts; bullet belts; artfully 'destroyed,' stained, and holed jeans, raggedy suede and sequined camouflage.

Breton Stripes - The boat neck mariner style top, an iconic classic made famous by Coco Channel is casual, easy to wear and versatile. Worn with jeans or dressed up with a skirt, it’s the must have stable in your wardrobe this summer. The more traditional versions have been given a fresh look with rouched shoulders, smaller stripe widths, three quarter sleeves and figure hugging.

Floral Prints – Pretty petals, big and bold geometric florals, digital and fantasy prints are blossoming this summer. These eye catching prints make even the simplest outfit stand out from the crowd.

Key Pieces

The Maxi dress – Romantic and feminine, this seasons maxi’s come in a huge array of differing styles, appropriate for women of all shapes and ages. With or without sleeves, scoop neck, empire line, floral print or plain block colours, the choice is yours.

Short Shorts – The short story of a summer classic, in varying styles. High waisted, dressy, denim and bottom skimming, this look is not for the faint hearted.
